He is a graduate of Flinders University in South Australia where he graduated with a PhD in electron scattering. He then worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Williams College in Williamstown, MA, USA in laser spectroscopy before joining NeuRA working in brain elastography in Lynne Bilston's laboratory. He has applied the magnetic resonance elastography technique to other areas of the human anatomy including skeletal muscle and the upper airway.Michael was appointed a senior research officer and a NIF Facilitation Fellow in 2009.
