Michelle is a research fellow, who recently completed her PhD titled "The pathophysiology of spinal muscular atrophy". This research established the feasibility and relevance of nerve excitability testing in children for the first time.
She continues research focusing on understanding mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and disease course (natural history) in spinal muscular atrophy, related disorders and Machado-Joseph Disease; hereditary disorders with motor neurone degeneration. These studies are being developed to potentially monitor disease progression and the response to potential therapies.
