Books for brains has launched! Read a book this October.

NeuRA’s initiative, Book for Brains, urges Aussies to read for the month of October and raise money for diseases of the brain.

Sadly, every year, 1 in 5 Australians suffers from a major brain or nervous system disorder such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other dementias, autism and motor neurone disease. This October is Books for Brains month and NeuRA is calling on all Australians to read and
raise much-needed funds to continue research into some of the most devastating diseases of the brain and mind.

NeuRA is an independent, not-for-profit research institute based in Sydney and a leader in brain and nervous system research. NeuRA’s goal is to prevent, treat and cure brain and nervous system diseases, disorders and injuries through medical research.

Just a few of NeuRA’s recent achievements include identifying the very first signs of Alzheimer’s disease; the creation of digital apps to help clinicians and GPs assess falls in older people; insights into how our muscles fatigue; a paradigm shift in how we view the schizophrenic brain; and an exciting new international collaboration looking at a protein instrumental in Parkinson’s disease.

To become involved, all people need to do is read (anything!) and have their family, friends and co-workers sponsor them. People can start by setting up an online fundraising page at www.booksforbrains.com.au
