Governor Marie Bashir to recognise Sydney’s most talented young neuroscientists

Sydney’s future leaders in neuroscience research will shake hands with Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of NSW at Neuroscience Research Australia’s annual scholarship ceremony.

The Governor will present thirteen gifted PhD students with scholarships donated by the public to facilitate their research into various areas of neuroscience.

The scholarships recognise outstanding research projects that will contribute to preventing, treating and curing brain and nervous system diseases, disorders and injuries.

The scholarship recipients span a number of research areas, and will devote their time and talent to solving the medical challenges of Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, motor neurone disease, stroke rehabilitation, and falls in the elderly.

Every year, one in five Australians is struck down with a major brain or mind disorder and research by NeuRA’s scholarship winners is essential to understanding and ultimately curing these disorders.

Having the Governor present their scholarship award will be an inspiration to these future research leaders, who depend on scholarships to carry out their research.

The scholarship ceremony will be held at Neuroscience Research Australia, Randwick at 5.30pm on Wednesday 25 July 2012.
