NeuRA Governing Council member named NSW Australian of the Year

NeuRA congratulates Associate Professor Munjed Al Muderis who has been named NSW Australian of the Year for 2020.

Award organisers said Associate Professor Al Muderis overcame extraordinary obstacles to become an orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in hip, knee and reconstructive surgery. Born in Baghdad, he sought refuge in Australia after fleeing Iraq and now advocates for the human rights of others. Associate Professor Al Muderis’ surgical innovations and breakthroughs are helping Australians and people throughout the world.

In 2019, Associate Professor Al Muderis joined the Governing Council of Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA).

Associate Professor Al Muderis brings a unique perspective to our Board. His skills and experience help us to ensure that our research will help as many Australians as possible,” said NeuRA CEO Prof Peter Schofield AO.

His clinical leadership and experience working with people in need is inspirational and we offer our heartfelt congratulations for this recognition.”

Associate Professor Al Muderis is an orthopaedic surgeon and a clinical lecturer at Macquarie University and The Australian School of Advanced Medicine.
