Changes in muscle architecture in children with cerebral palsy who have muscle contractures.

Muscle contracture is a major cause of disability and deformity in children with cerebral palsy. It is not clear whether contractures are caused by changes in the mechanical properties of muscle fibres or tendons or both. This study uses diffusion tensor imaging (a type of MRI) to identify architectural changes (such as changes in length and arrangements of muscle fibres and the lengths of tendons) in children with cerebral palsy who have muscle contracture.
